Fresno Audubon Society Searches for Waterbirds
Waterbirds are the original concern of the Audubon Society, founded in 1905. The Audubon Society is concerned with conservancy, and the Fresno Audubon Society, an effort to foster interest in conserving ecosystems for birds, sponsors walks at the Fresno County Wastewater Treatment Facility and other locations around the county.
The water levels at basins such as those at the treatment facility allow birds to find their preferred range for feeding. Understanding birds means knowing more than just what they look like, the Audubon Society teaches. It is also about understanding the balance of plants, water, insects, mammals and other birds.
Many areas are now protected areas where birds can migrate, nest and find food without fear of human interference.
David Ficklin, one of the Fresno Audubon members, had his interest in winged creatures sparked by the appearance of a barn owl on his back porch eight years ago. Since then, David has turned to photographing all sorts of birds and has constructed a camera-ready barn owl box on his property like the ones available from Barn Owl Boxes.
Barn Owl Boxes offers state-of-the-art barn owl and bat boxes to attract these creatures and allow them a safe, comfortable nesting place so that they can raise families. Not only do Barn Owl Boxes afford homeowners the opportunity to see barn owls in their natural habitat, they also allow barn owl pairs to nest close to the home, providing instant rodent control. A normal barn owl pair can eat up to 2,000 mice, rats, voles and other rodents during a breeding season. This healthy way to control the rodent population allows homeowners to have access to natural, organic pest control without the use of poisons or traps.
Owners of Barn Owl Boxes are fascinated by the life cycle of these incredible creatures. Watching a pair of nesting barn owls take over a box, breed a clutch of eggs, raise the young and push them into the wild is one of the most thrilling experiences anyone can have. Barn Owl Boxes are perfect gifts for those who, like the Fresno Audubon Society members, are interested in conservation and preservation of bird habitats as well as watching birds in their natural environments.
Barn Owl Boxes are available both with and without video feed and in several sizes and setups to fit every home site.
